Chilean tennis player Alejandro Tabilo continues his impressive run at the Rome Masters after defeating Russian Karen Khachanov and progressing to the quarterfinals.
In the quarterfinals, Tabilo will face Taylor Fritz, who defeated Grigor Dimitrov in the previous round. Tabilo managed to defeat Khachanov in straight sets, winning both tiebreaks after a grueling match lasting two hours and 34 minutes (7:6, 7:6).
Khachanov saved four break points in the fourth game of the first set and then managed to break Tabilo’s serve. However, Tabilo immediately broke back. The set was eventually decided in a tiebreak, with Tabilo having a slight edge (7:5).
In the second set, Tabilo secured an early break in the third game, but Khachanov managed to level the set in the sixth game. Tabilo had a chance to close out the match earlier, holding two break points in the ninth game, but Khachanov held on.
The tiebreak in the second set was a tense battle, with Khachanov saving four match points and Tabilo saving two set points before ultimately prevailing 12:10. Tabilo now awaits the winner of the match between Zverev and Monteiro in the quarterfinals.
Meanwhile, the eighth seed and world number ten Grigor Dimitrov was eliminated by the eleventh seed Taylor Fritz after a three-set battle. Fritz emerged victorious with a scoreline of 6:2, 6:7, 6:1, with the final set being the least competitive.
