Tomislav Kovač, 48, and his son David, 20, were buried yesterday in different cemeteries in Sombor, after Tomislav shot his son multiple times in their family home on Friday, October 18, and then took his own life. According to neighbors, no one wanted to accompany the father to his eternal rest.

„I have known Tomislav for many years, and I still don’t understand why he did that. He committed a great sin and I am not surprised that no one came to his funeral, even though he was buried without the presence of a priest because of what he did, no one of the neighbors wanted to attend his last farewell. I am only sorry for the woman who lost her son,“ said one neighbor to Kurir.

Tomislav shot his son and killed him with several shots, and then committed suicide in the house where David’s grandmother, or Tomislav’s mother, was at that time, as Tomislav aimed the weapon at his son that fateful day.

Neighbors of the Kovač family are still in shock over the tragedy, saying they cannot understand why such a bloodbath occurred, but also claim that the reason was definitely not financial in nature, given that they owned several properties in Sombor.

„We first heard that the grandmother had no idea what was happening, she was in the house when the shooting happened, since then she has been on medication, she was the first to see her dead son and grandson, we cannot even imagine what those sights were like,“ said a neighbor.

The Kovač family had lived in the Austrian city of Linz for years, they recently returned to Serbia for a celebration they attended before the tragedy. David’s mother stayed in Sombor while the father and son went to Bezdan. According to neighbors, there was some argument between them, after which gunshots were heard.
